I’m going to start with just a basic shot, nothing tough, just simple and basic ways of how to shoot a basketball. The basic goal is to develop the proper form and perfect it to the point that it’s automatic. Basketball sizes vary from youth to women’s to men’s, but the techniques are the same.
You won’t even have to think about it anymore, you’ll be sinking shots in your sleep while you’re counting sheep.
Have you ever watched a really good shooter shoot the ball? It looks good, it’s a site to behold it’s an art.
1. Placement of hands:
The most important thing is the hand placement. It depends upon if you are a left handed person or a right handed. In case of your right handed, you have to place your palm on the top of the ball and as your left hand would be partially to the side of the ball and semi underneath it in order to support and guide the ball.
Always remember if you want to learn basketball you should have loosened grip on the ball because you have to speak up too, never have a smooth holding of the ball with your entire wrist. It’s your fingers that help you rotate the ball during the game. how to shoot a
2. Releasing position:
The second important thing is your way of releasing the ball. You have to bring the ball above your head in such a way that your shooting arm makes a right angle or an “L”. Think as if it is like a catapult.
Even the basketball shooting styles vary from people to people. Some have a habit of releasing the ball in front of their face and some do it behind their head. It’s good if you do what comes in you naturally, but keep in mind that you can get easily blocked if you cock the ball lower. Also it takes longer time to set when the ball is cocked farther behind your head. Right above the head or a bit lower is a more likable place to release the ball.
3. Making a shoot:
Finally, time to take a shoot. In case of right handed person try keeping your feet about the shoulder width apart along with a forward right foot. Elbows should be tucked in close to your body. You have to shoot from around the free throw up line and sometimes even a bit closer.
The best illustration is that just imagine the start up of energy under your feet while bending your knees slightly. Then visualize this energy running up your complete body until it reaches your top head, this is the time when you have to release the ball from your fingertips.
Shoot the ball! and keep in mind the moment you snap your wrist you have to roll off the ball from your fingertips. Your opposite hand only guides you and it never act as a hindrance in your shooting.
Give the ball a nice high arc like a rainbow. Shoot it in line with the basket and follow through by snapping your wrist to give the ball proper rotation. You only don’t have to practice but also visualize this all act. Try picturing it again and again.
And that's how you shoot a basketball perfectly.
And that was just a basketball shot; people even learn how to crawl before you even start walking. Similarly you have certain magnitudes of basketball shots and hence they are applied according to the respective situations.
